“Overland Blvd. Flowers” by Holly Willis

after Justin Aoba

Frayed strings of light fall through the glass of orange juice standing solitary on the stainless kitchen counter & you walk in with your dream-kissed hair & even on this last day I cosplay a fork & muster all my points & run them along a thousand edges that I will reattach over a thousand new mornings & even after two lives intertwine & fill with gold & shatter again & again & I’ve finally had enough of staying gold & instead let me gather slivers of tomorrow & shift sky blue & pink-dipped clouds & entire wild prismatic rainbows of color to paint & paint between you & me.
